Flank Steak Bulgogi

Bulgogi | Barbecue Beef

 

Ingredients

1 pound flank steak

Marinade
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine
1 tablespoon granulate or brown sugar
1 tablespoon mirin*
2 medium cloves minced garlic, about 2 teaspoons
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon sesame seed oil
1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds
1 stalk green onion, chopped, 1/4 cup

*sweet cooking seasoning, can be substituted with 1/2 tablespoon of light corn syrup and 1/2 tablespoon sake.

Trim fat and sinew.

 
 

Bulgogi

Cut in half lengthwise, with the grain.

With each of the halved pieces, cut on a bias against the grain in thin slices, about 1/8 of an inch. Transfer the sliced pieces to a mixing bowl.

Combine all the marinade ingredients. Pour over the meat. Combine well and marinade for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

Grill or pan fry quickly on each side until golden brown.

Transfer to a serving dish and serve with hot rice and side dishes.

 
 

Pairing Suggestions

 

Flank Steak Kimchi Sandwich
1 bun or 2 slices sandwich bread
1 cup cooked Bulgogi
1/2 cup Kimchi Stir-Fry
mayonnaise

Lightly toast the bun or bread in a pan lightly coated with olive oil. Spread mayonnaise on a bun or on the bread. Lay Bulgogi, then Kimchi. If using sandwich bread, top with another piece, cut in half and serve.

If you want to add cheese, place Bulgogi and Kimchi in a microwave safe plate, top with cheese. Cook in the microwave for 20 seconds or until the cheese starts to melt. Then make the sandwich.
